Transport & Logistics Supervisor / Manager

You will be managing a team of 4 drivers, 4 vehicles, FLT’s and 2 transport administrators in line with the business needs and legislative requirements. Responsibilities will include ensuring necessary Safety Checks and delivery against the daily plan, managing cost efficiencies for the department and supporting the loading and unloading of vehicles.

The role will require that the co-ordination of any stock moving across site is done in an effective and safe manner as well as supporting collections and deliveries for the business. You will need to ensure the day to day operation meets the requirements of the business in terms of service and efficiency while also maintaining financial goals as set out by the company. The post holder will play a key role in the continual improvement of process / methods in accordance with the sites operating procedures.

This is not an office based role as the site is very spread out and you will need to be active across the site to while providing effective management and control of the Logistics and Transport area of the business.

Key Requirements

 Duties:

  • Managing safe and timely transportation of loads across site and between suppliers and customers
  •  Working with suppliers and customers, planning cost effective routes and scheduling delivery times to ensure OTIF delivery standards are achieved at every opportunity
  • Support the strategic development of the department and the management of any administrative records

  • Ensure that all transport operations are carried out in line with UK and EU laws, regulations and legislation

  • Ensure compliance with all drivers’ hours, Working Time, and Road Transport Directive Legislation, including management of Tachographs

  • Ensure that all team members understand and are able to demonstrate safe, legal, and efficient driving skills and do so at all times during working hours

  • Effective management of the company fleet of vehicles, including FLT fleet; daily checks, vehicle maintenance and organising vehicle replacements where required to minimise disruption to transport schedules and the needs of the business, and ensuring adherence to both company and statutory requirements

  • Ensure all relevant paperwork and logs are completed correctly and promptly

  • Team motivation, providing coaching, guidance and encouragement to ensure planned targets and deadlines

  • Monitor attendance / timekeeping

  • Manage and motivate your team to safely deliver excellent service to all areas of the business as required

  • Conduct regular performance management appraisals for all logistics team members to drive capability and conduct and identifying any training needs and areas for development

  • Drive the team to maintain safe, structured work areas at all times keeping the areas clear of obstructions for the safe passage of any pedestrians and traffic across the site, including the use of standard work operations and 5S

  • Adhere to and ensure all staff follow Company procedures, and health and safety policies and practices

  • Ensure that staff are wearing the required PPE at all times

  • Additional duties as deemed reasonable and necessary to meet the needs of the business

 

Person Specification:

CPC Qualification

3 + years in a Transport Supervisory role

Knowledge of UK driver legislation

Experience of People Management and Performance Development

A clear understanding of how to read tachographs

Strong analytical thinking and the ability to develop results

Negotiation Skills
